Wow! I was out there that night too…taking sunset pictures, then turned around and saw the moon. Didn’t have a clue how to get that shot..but did get one finally. Though it was darker by then.
It was a great evening to be out with a camera! The moon is very tough to capture because it is so much brighter than the surroundings. I had to underexpose the image and bring back the detail in Lightroom.
I’m guessing you manually set the f stop, ISO, shutter speed on the moon shot? Because the automatic setting didn’t work when I tried it and I didn’t have a clue what I should set stuff at manually. Plus I was struggling with a new tripod…all reasons why I couldn’t get what I saw…but man, I’ll be ready next time!
I generally use aperture priority mode and set the ISO if I need a different shutter speed. Then I will use exposure compensation to dial in the image exposure (like under or over exposing for highlights or shadows).
