Pre-Dawn Cindy

Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World

My last day going to the parks was a Magic Kingdom day. I had some rides I wanted to experience and views I wanted to capture. I thought maybe I would take it easy in the morning and get to the park a little after the opening rush. Luckily, I checked the hours for park opening and was reminded that Friday was an early morning extra magic hour day. This meant the park would open at 7am, a full 30 minutes before sunrise. I couldn’t pass this up! Off to bed I went so I could catch the 6am bus…

No issues getting to the park on time.  The bus was a little late picking us up but we arrived in time for the park opening ceremony.  My disappointment came in the amount of early morning fog which had settled on the park.  I was discouraged but didn’t give up.  As everyone else ran to the back of the park to ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, I setup right in front of the castle and captured this glowing view due to the misty fog.  If you look close you can see the ghosts of the other guests racing up the ramps on either side of the castle.

Another disappointment came when I realized the bridge to Liberty Square was blocked off as that section of the park would not open until 8am.  This meant my sunrise over the castle concept (not original to me, but I wanted that view!) was not going to happen.  I went to the opposite side to capture another glowing view of the castle but with a nice reflection in the moat (picture to follow soon).  I worked my way around the hub and Tomorrowland capturing as many lighted images as I could get before the fogged diffused sunrise created a truly boring sky.

Eventually the sun burned its way through the fog and the fabled Florida blue sky made its presence known…
