Sunset Sticks

Delta Lake State Park

The perfect end to a hectic day, sunset at Delta Lake State Park. I had the beach area all to myself, except for a pair of geese…

Driftwood?

Limestone Creek Aqueduct, Old Erie Canal Park

Since I discovered the Old Erie Canal Park very near to my work last year I have been waiting for the parking area further downstream to open up so I could explore farther during lunch. There was a lot of construction and they were rebuilding the parking area. I had to be patient but it has been killing me.

I think earlier this month the parking area was open but the weather was not the best for my exploring. Today that all changed. The sun was out and there were a few clouds in the sky. Lunch didn’t arrive soon enough.

I knew from scouring Google Maps that there was another aqueduct further down the canal. It wasn’t a very far walk and I was able to spend time exploring both sides of the aqueduct. It appears to be built identical to the aqueduct over Butternut Creek. This one is over Limestone Creek but the geography allows me to get closer to both sides at the creek level. I’m going to be enjoying this as the seasons change this year!

Winter Spring

Old Erie Canal Park, DeWitt, NY

Although it was a few days after the official start of Spring, some late season snow covered the park. I was looking for some interesting water flow as the winter melt typically increases the water levels in all the creeks and rivers. I found what I was looking for during lunch at the Old Erie Canal Park in DeWitt but the snow made for some interesting climbing as I attempted to get to the water’s edge. I didn’t fall in (although it was close a couple of times) and I was even able to reach a new position next to the aqueduct. The overcast day combined with my 4-stop ND filter allowed my to slow the shutter speed enough to achieve the motion blur I wanted. I’m thinking the warmer weather heading my way (slightly) will give me more opportunities for my long exposure, water blur pics I enjoy.

Wind Swept Sunrise

Backyard

Although I didn’t get that walk through the snow yesterday I did manage to snag this sunrise in the morning. I was distracted enough by getting my laundry done that as I was getting ready to leave to have the car looked at I noticed the colors in the sky and the winter beach look to the snow. I had a few minutes, so I put the camera on the tripod and trudged my way into the backyard. I almost called this one red, white and blue morning…

Just Thinkin’

Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World

Wow! Ten days! My last post was a week and a half ago. It has been some crazy days. I made a one day trip to Detroit to perform an inspection at a supplier. I fought through a sinus cold and then there was Stella. Winter storm Stella thought it would be fun to let us not forget Spring does not official start until March 20th. Oh, and didn’t we loose an hour somewhere around last Sunday. I keep looking for it but I think it will be quite a few months before I find it and get it back.

At least it is the weekend! Saturday morning and I have started my chores. Second load of laundry is in the washing machine. The dust bunnies tell me it is also time to get out more cleaning supplies than the vacuum. Later this morning I’ll be bringing a car to the garage to look for an oil leak and if all goes well, I’ll be pushing my way through some snow with the camera. Until then here is Goofy thinking it is time for me to return for a visit…
