Chittenango Falls State Park
Even though I spent last week out in California for business I decided I would take Monday off to create myself a nice four day weekend. Yep, being a little lazy right now. Sort of… Yesterday was my state park day.
I thought as a result of the recent rains it would be a good weekend to drive to Ithaca, NY to visit a few of my favorite state parks. Depending on the crowds, weather and my fitness I can usually get two or three parks visited in a single day. And of course there is always a stop at Chittenango Falls on the drive back home. Spoiler alert… I managed only two parks around Ithaca as the crowds started to become more than I was willing to share. 🙂 I will have pictures from both Taughannock Falls and Buttermilk Falls parks soon.
I worked my way to Chittenango Falls around noon. Even though the other parks were starting to get crowded I didn’t anticipate the volume of people at my last park. I almost couldn’t find a parking space. Which was interesting considering how high and fast the Chittenango Creek was flowing. Most sections of the park were closed due to dangerous conditions. I didn’t capture any pictures of the main falls but you can view what it was like here.
On the plus side, a small alcove falls area downstream from the main falls had water. It is rare that I can photograph this little waterfall as it always depends on conditions. I grabbed a few images and then high tailed it out of the park. Way to many people and no place to go in the park. It was time to get back home…
